4 survival tips for last-minute holiday shopping

If you're thinking about braving the mall in these last few days before Christmas, keep the following tips in mind:

1. Make a list.

If possible, decide what you're going to buy before you go. The less amount of time spent in the mall, the better.

2. Call ahead.

Just because you know a certain store should carry a specific item doesn't mean it will necessarily be in stock. To avoid a holiday-stress-induced freak-out, call ahead and make sure they have it. If they do, see if they'll hold it for you.

3. Eat before you go.

Chances are, you're already not thrilled about braving the mall at this time of year to begin with. Add an empty stomach into the mix – and long food court line-ups with very few empty tables – and you're asking for trouble. Fill up before you go – and bring a few snacks, just in case.

4. Practise your deep breathing.

In through the nose, out through the mouth.
